More pitch space at St Thomas More Playing Fields
We have signed a licence to use the St Thomas More Playing Fields for 2025/26. The club has grown from 30 teams to 39 in three years.
Hessle Rangers has signed a licence to use St Thomas More Playing Fields, on the corner of First Lane, Anlaby and Beverley Road, Hessle, for the 2025/26 season. This is an initial trial of extra pitch space.
We are well aware of how much the club has grown over the past five years. Our girls and ladies teams have gone from one to nine since we opened our Wildcats centre in 2018. The total number of teams in the club only hit 30 for the first time less than three years ago, and we are already at 39 this season. We plan to add at least three teams a year, one girls and two boys or mixed, and that growth has led us to look for more space.
The playing fields have been a problem for local residents for reasons that are obvious to everyone. We hope that by making the site usable, well cared for and home to football matches every weekend, we can help deter anti-social behaviour. The site splits Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire County Council, and both councils are already working to make vehicle access much harder while still allowing maintenance equipment and emergency vehicles in.
We have applied to improve the amenities on the site and we continue to work with both councils on security improvements to keep it free of anti-social behaviour.
Parking will be on neighbouring roads. We will work with home and away teams to keep parking responsible, and we hope local residents will agree that a clean, well-maintained site full of healthy activity is far better than how the playing fields are used now.
