Where do my subs go?
We are a not-for-profit run by volunteers. Here is exactly what your subs pay for, split between your team and the club.
Members sometimes ask what they are paying for when they pay subs into their team. Hessle Rangers is a transparent club and we are happy to share the exact details with any player or parent.
The club is a CIC, a community interest company, which by definition is a not-for-profit. No one is paid a salary. The club is run from top to bottom by hard-working volunteers. We run at break even most years, sometimes losing money and needing to increase income, and we charge exactly what we need to deliver football for our junior and senior players.
How the money flows
Hessle Rangers uses a layered payment system. Players and parents pay their subs into their team, the team pays subs into the club, and the club organises and pays for all pitches, facilities and bills. When you pay subs into your team, that money is split roughly 50/50 between the team and the club.
What the team's share pays for
Your team's funds are used mainly for referees, tournaments, footballs and training equipment, and parties and presentations at Christmas or the end of the season.
Team kit is usually sponsored. If a team is struggling for sponsorship, they may use team funds to buy kit and go without something else, like an elaborate presentation.
What the club's share pays for
At club level, the secretary sources, books and allocates all training slots and match pitches, affiliates every team with the Football Association, enters teams into their leagues, and tracks safeguarding and learning requirements for all coaches, managers and volunteers.

Line markers and paint
Electricity and water bills
Buildings insurance and public liability insurance
Affiliation costs, including personal injury insurance, per team
League entry fees per team and registration fees per player
Courses for all coaches, including coaching, safeguarding and first aid, plus DBS checks for all volunteers and annual renewals
Starter packs for all new teams
Goals, nets, respect barriers, corner flags and similar
Consumables such as toilet rolls, hand wash, toilet cleaner and brushes
Income beyond subs
Some income comes in outside of subs. We apply for grants and are occasionally successful, such as recent grants to buy new goalposts. The club kitchen is open at home games, serving tea, coffee and hot food, and over a season it brings in the equivalent of an extra senior team's subs (assuming it is not wiped out by the weather, as it largely was for much of the last two seasons).
We also run an annual tournament and a Christmas party and raffle, which are crucial fundraisers. Everything raised from both is currently set aside for the Bilsdon Park clubhouse project.
We hope this helps everyone understand how the club is funded and how that money is spent. We operate as a club, not as a collection of individuals or separate teams. Everyone contributes, through volunteering, money, or both, and every contribution is vital and valued.
